EM Duct Cleaning will deactivate your HVAC system, and remove the service panel. We will then locate the furnace air filter and inspect it for dust. If you have a reusable furnace filter, we will use high-powered vacuums to remove debris - and if you have a disposable furnace filter, we will throw it out and replace it with a furnace filter of matching size and model type - moving on to then perform diagnostics to make sure your furnace is properly operating.

Furnace Filter Varieties

There’s a massive range of furnace filter types, ranging from cardboard and fiberglass framed furnace filters to permanent metallic furnace filters. Disposable furnace filters are more affordable but need to be replaced every month. Permanent furnace filters are more expensive and require regular cleaning. It can save you money in the long run. All good quality furnace filters are MERV (minimum efficiency report value) rated, letting you know how well the furnace filter can trap particulate matter.

Some furnace filter types include mechanical furnace filters which capture debris with mesh, have issues capturing smaller particles, but are ideal for areas where allergies are not a concern. Electrostatic furnace filters are made of polyester strands that use static, when electrically charged with airflow, to capture dust and pollen. (They’re meant to be permanent but require cleaning every three months.)

Electronic furnace filters utilize a charged wire grid to attract and capture debris, but are so good at this that they require weekly cleaning. HEPA furnace filters are expensive, and have 99% efficiency, way over MERV requirements - and are often used in high sanitation areas like hospitals, and doctor’s offices, but are popular lately due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
